I don't think we could have packed any more into today if we tried. We rolled out of Sioux Falls around 7:30 am and didn't stop. Breakfast at Al's Oasis (google it, Daddy), then lunch at Wall Drug. Which deserves a whole day by itself, really. On to Deadwood, where M and I checked in at our hotel downtown and then walked around until the Club was ready to go. We went to Mt. Rushmore, definitely the highlight of the day. Wow.
I didn't know what to expect, but I sure didn't expect the tears. I think I was just overwhelmed at seeing something I've always wanted to. Major bucket list check off.
We ate there, and stayed for the lighting ceremony. Which meant we watched the sun set behind Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt and Lincoln. A moving speech by a national park ranger, a short film reminding us to appreciate liberty (I do!), and recognition for all present who served our country in the armed forces (that's them on the stage). It was pretty damn cool.
